About Naxos

‘My Island’

Naxos is a relatively large (428 km2) Cycladic island. The Cyclades are known for their white, cubist architecture or villages that seem to consist of blocks placed on top of each other. Many white churches too, some with blue domes. The Cyclades are best known for the more touristic islands of Santorini and Mykonos, the azure blue sea and white beaches. But also by images of laden donkeys, raki-drinking old men and orthodox priests with beards and long black robes.

Naxos has all that and so much more. The beaches are extensive with soft, white sand, but there are also enclosed coves and coves with stones or rocks. There is a beautiful capital with nice shopping streets where you can get lost, with a beautiful Venetian Kastro towering above the white house. And on the small peninsula, the Portara is photogenic. This gate is a remnant of a temple in honor of the Greek God Apollo.

Naxos has a beautiful coast, but also a mountainous, green interior that is so varied that it seems that you end up in a new landscape at every turn. There is cattle breeding, marble mining, there are olive trees,… In the small mountain villages, you often feel like the only tourist.
If you like antiquities, you can indulge yourself at the statues that seem to be in the middle of nowhere, or you can visit museums or temples. Naxos breathes history.
Active people will also find miles of hiking trails along Byzantine churches or over mountain slopes with beautiful views. Or why not climb the 1000 meter high Mount Zas (or Zeus) on an early morning?

Why Naxos?

I ended up on a Cycladic island for the first time in 1990 – very unplanned – and fell in love. Twenty years later, I have visited and revisited 23 of the 24 inhabited Cycladic islands and Naxos just kept on pulling. So I looked for a pied-à-terre there. Over the past 10 years I have become more and more convinced of the charm and versatility of this island and I want nothing more than to share it with others.

Therefore.
That’s why I’m only too happy to invite people to come to Naxos to enjoy. To enjoy the sun and the sea, the city and the interior, the company and yourself, the peace and growth.

Because in Naxos you are free. Free to be.

How do you get there?

Naxos is an island, so you don’t just end up there, it’s a choice. In the meantime, however, there are a lot of options that make it easier for you.

Naxos by air

On a flight from Athens to Naxos, you’ll be in the air for half an hour.
You can fly directly from Brussels-Zaventem to Naxos (with a transfer in Athens) with Aegean Airlines-Olympic Air or with Sky Express.
You can also fly to Athens from different Belgian and Dutch airports with another airline. And then take an inland flight with the above airlines. Then allow a little more transfer time.

Naxos by air and sea

Via Athens

If you fly to Athens, a slower, but pleasant alternative is the ferry from Pireaus or Rafina. Or you can opt for a faster catamaran. The sailing time varies between 3.5 hours and 6 hours.

Via Santorini or Mykonos

From various international airports you can fly directly to Santorini and Mykonos. From there you can take the boat. From Mykonos it takes about an hour, from Santorini you have to count on 3 hours.

The ferry and catamaran that provide the trips to Naxos are:
Blue Star Ferries
Hellenic Seaways
Seajets
and Fast Ferries

As a seasoned Naxos traveler, I can certainly help you with this. I will provide you with an overview of the various options on request .
Prices of course depend on the period. But booking early is usually cheaper.

Where to stay?

Naxos offers a lot of possibilities for staying. Would you like to camp, have your own villa or a simple hotel room? Anything is possible.
You have the choice to arrange this yourself, or go for a total package.

Total package

This service means that I arrange everything for you with the guesthouse I work with. When registering, you let us know when you arrive and depart. I take care of the booking of the room or apartment and the prepayment. When you arrive, I will be waiting for you at the (air) port, drive you past the shop for the first shopping, take the ‘tourist route’, so you can get an idea of the area and finally I will take you to your accommodation.

You will stay in the authentic Magic Land, where manager Argyro knows how to spoil you. All rooms have a terrace, Wi-Fi, a private bathroom and basic cooking facilities.

There is the choice between a studio or an apartment with a separate bedroom. Breakfast is not offered, but you can also count on hotel service. Magic land is located 100 meters from the sea and 150 meters from the I OUSÍA area – so comfortably close.

The prices including total package (5 nights) are mentioned per Retreat. More information about prices and availability on simple request.

I’m looking for a place myself

Of course, you can also look for a nice place to stay yourself. Naxos offers stays from different price ranges and luxuries. You can opt for super basic or just rent your own chic villa with a few people – possibly a little further away and take a car.

By the way, you will find the luxurious Archon Seaside Retreat nearby. Christos offers houses, studios and rooms, just like Niki, who is sure to pamper you as well.

My spot can be found near the beach between Plaka and Orkos. Distance to Mikri Vigla (2 km), to Plaka Beach (5 km along the road, 2.5 km along the beach) or to Naxos Town (10 km).
